SizeBreak

A break from size limits.

SizeBreak compresses a video under a size limit, like a 20 MB upload limit, right on your iPhone or iPad. No uploads, no account, no ads.

Getting started

Common questions

The video looks blurry after I send it.

Some apps compress videos again when you send them. Discord and Signal don't recompress a video that's within their limits, so SizeBreak keeps videos for them within those limits. For Discord, also set Settings › Chat › Video Uploads to Best Quality in Discord. Messenger and WhatsApp re-encode every video; for WhatsApp, tap HD before sending.

The video doesn't play on a PC.

SizeBreak makes HEVC videos, which nearly every phone, computer and app plays. Some older PCs and Linux can't. Only if a video won't play, turn on Compatibility mode to use H.264 and compress the video again: it looks worse at the same size. Options changes the video you have loaded; Settings changes it for new videos, including ones you share from Photos.

Why is it smaller or lower resolution than I expected?

By default SizeBreak keeps videos at up to 1080p; set Max resolution to Original under Quality to keep up to 4K. Some targets go lower, because the app would shrink the video anyway: Discord (free), Messenger and WhatsApp to 720p, and Signal to 640 pixels wide or tall. Within that, it lowers the bitrate first, and lowers resolution, frame rate or audio quality only when the bitrate would get too low to look good. You can turn each of those off under Settings › If a Video Doesn't Fit.
