SizeBreak Privacy Policy
Effective November 3, 2026
The short version
- SizeBreak doesn't collect any data. It has no account, ads, analytics or third-party code, and it makes no network requests of its own.
- Your videos are compressed on your device. They leave it only when you share them or save them to Photos.
- SizeBreak never sends the developer your videos, your settings or anything about how you use the app. (Apple's optional crash reports are covered below.)
Who makes SizeBreak
SizeBreak is a free, open-source app made by Alan Klas, publishing as DuckyLabs, an independent developer in Poland (“I” on this page). Its source code is public at gitlab.com/duckylabs-tech/sizebreak, so you can check everything described here.
What SizeBreak collects
Nothing. SizeBreak has no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and it contains no third-party SDKs or libraries. The app and its share extension make no network requests of their own, so nothing about you or your videos is sent to me or to anyone else.
Because nothing is collected, nothing is shared with third parties and nothing is sold.
Your videos
When you choose a video (with the photo picker, from Files, by dragging it in, or with Share › SizeBreak in Photos, Files or another app), SizeBreak copies it into its own private storage on your device and compresses it there with your device's video encoder.
What stays on your device
While you work with a video, SizeBreak keeps the copy of the original (deleted right away when the video only needed cleaning up), the compressed copy, and a small record of the job: the original's file name, size and length, the target size, the options used, the compressed copy's name and size, how far it got or why it failed, and when the job ran. The record lets SizeBreak finish a job that was interrupted, or bring a finished one back when you tap its notification. The copy of the original also lets you compare it with the compressed copy.
These files are stored only in SizeBreak's private storage, protected by iOS data protection, and excluded from iCloud and computer backups.
When it's deleted
- In the app: when you tap New, Clear or Cancel, discard a paused video, choose another video, or use Settings › Storage › Clear Cache (which keeps the video you have open). A video still open on screen stays until then. Otherwise its files are kept for about a day, so you can share it again from its notification or finish a paused one, and are deleted the next time SizeBreak starts after that.
- In the share extension: as soon as you close it, whether with Done, Cancel or a swipe, and after you share the video from it. If iOS closes the extension first, its files are deleted the same way as the app's, and the app may offer to finish that video in the meantime.
- Deleting SizeBreak deletes all of these files.
What's in the compressed copy
The location, the camera and device details, and the other metadata tags stored in the original file are removed. The capture date is kept, so the video sorts correctly in Photos and other apps, unless you turn off Settings › Privacy › Keep capture date. The compressed copy is named after the original, for example IMG_1234.mp4, and anyone you send it to sees that name.
When a video leaves your device
Only when you send or save it:
- Sharing. The share sheet sends the compressed copy to the app or person you pick, and that app's privacy policy applies from then on. If Open share sheet automatically is on, the sheet opens when compressing finishes, but nothing is sent until you pick where it goes.
- Saving to Photos. Save to Photos, the Also save to Photos setting, or finishing a video for Discord adds the compressed copy to your photo library, in a SizeBreak Compressed album. If you use iCloud Photos, Apple syncs it like any other video.
- Videos stored in the cloud. If the original is in iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive or another storage service in Files, that service may download it before handing it to SizeBreak.
Permissions
- Photos. The first time it saves a video, SizeBreak asks for access to your library, because iOS only lets an app with access put videos in an album. Limited access is enough. SizeBreak only adds its own videos to its SizeBreak Compressed album and doesn't read anything else in your library. If you don't allow it, SizeBreak asks to add videos only, and saves them without the album. Choosing a video with the photo picker needs no permission: iOS gives SizeBreak only the video you picked.
- Notifications (optional). If you turn them on, SizeBreak shows a notification when a video finishes or pauses while the app is in the background or your device is locked. The share extension doesn't send notifications. Notifications are created on your device, with no server involved, and show only sizes or progress, never a file name or a picture from the video.
- Background processing. While a long video compresses in the background, iOS shows its progress, such as the percentage, the time left and the expected size, never the file name.
SizeBreak doesn't use the camera, microphone, location, contacts or the advertising identifier.
Settings stored on your device
SizeBreak stores your preferences (default target, custom sizes, format and the other options in Settings), an estimate of how fast your device compresses video (used for time estimates), whether you've answered the notifications prompt or seen a tip, and whether you've told SizeBreak that Discord is set to Best Quality. These stay on your device. Like other app settings, they're included in your own device backups. Deleting the app removes them.
Crash reports from Apple
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Share With App Developers), Apple may send me crash reports and usage statistics about SizeBreak in a form that doesn't identify you. If you test a beta through TestFlight, Apple shares crash reports, install and session counts, and any feedback you send (which includes your email address and device details) with me. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy, and you can turn sharing off in the same place at any time. SizeBreak itself doesn't collect or send anything.
Children
SizeBreak doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your choices and rights
What SizeBreak stores is on your device and under your control:
- Settings › Storage › Clear Cache removes stored videos, except the one you have open and any the share extension used in the last hour.
- Deleting SizeBreak removes everything it stored. Videos you saved to Photos or sent to other apps stay there.
- Photos access and notifications can be turned off at any time in the iOS Settings app.
The app never sends me anything, so the only information about you I can hold is what you send me yourself: an email you write to me, and, if you test a beta, the feedback and crash reports TestFlight passes on. I use it only to answer you and fix problems. Emails stay in my mailbox until I delete them; TestFlight feedback stays in App Store Connect until I delete it. You can ask me to show you, correct or delete any of it.
If you're in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. If SizeBreak ever starts collecting data, this page will be updated, and the change announced in the App Store release notes, before the version that does it is released.
